This data study provides exact steering wheel weights for OEM (stock) and carbon fiber aftermarket wheels across 14 popular vehicle platforms. All weights were measured using a calibrated digital scale with ±5g accuracy. Carbon fiber wheel weights are from CarbonTailor production samples.

Steering wheel weight matters because it is rotating mass that the driver directly controls. Unlike static vehicle weight (seats, body panels), rotating mass must be accelerated and decelerated with every steering input. The physics principle is moment of inertia — the resistance of an object to rotational acceleration.
The steering wheel's moment of inertia is proportional to its mass and the square of its radius. Reducing mass reduces moment of inertia, making the wheel easier to turn quickly. This translates to:
