Forged carbon fiber (also called forged composite, chopped carbon, or compression carbon) is a type of carbon fiber reinforced polymer that uses randomly oriented short carbon fiber strands compressed under high pressure, rather than the continuous woven fibers used in traditional carbon fiber. The result is a material with a unique marbled appearance where no two pieces are identical.

The unique marbled appearance of forged carbon comes from the random orientation of chopped fibers. In woven carbon fiber, all fibers run in two directions (0° and 90° for twill), creating a uniform pattern. In forged carbon, the chopped fibers are randomly oriented in all directions, creating swirling, organic patterns that look like flowing water or marble stone.
